From the early beginnings of humanity, pop music has attracted and captivated its listeners. Flûte Alors! presents an anthology of the greatest hits of the last 500 years in original arrangements created especially for the ensemble. Get ready for a crazy evening!

21st-century music composed for recorder quartet constitutes a repertoire quite unique in its genre. The only recorder quartet in Canada, Flûte Alors! makes a point of sharing this music, and relishes in discovering treasures that will amaze and move listeners. This concert will present works by Caroline Ansink, Wojciech Blecharz and Chiel Meijering – and will also be an opportunity for the ensemble to premiere a new work by Kevin O’Neil for recorder quartet and electronics.

This program is dedicated to the composer Mateo Romero, who was born in 1575 in Liège and died in 1647 in Madrid. He was considered to be the last student of the great Franco-Flemish school. For this concert flavoured with Spanish spices, Flûte Alors! will have the honor of performing with Sylvain Bergeron, a specialist in early guitars, and who will play an instrument you may not yet have discovered: the vihuela.

Flûte Alors! poursuit son exploration de la musique J.S. Bach en réalisant des arrangements pour quatuor de flûtes à bec et basse continue de ses plus belles œuvres vocales et instrumentales. Pour l’occasion, l’ensemble s’associe à deux musiciens incontournables de la scène baroque montréalaise : le claveciniste Luc Beauséjour et la violoncelliste Amanda Keesmaat.

Although King Henry VIII captures our collective imagination for many sinister reasons, his reign and numerous reforms undeniably contributed to the rise of English Renaissance polyphony. Music occupied a central place in his life: he composed, sang and excelled on several musical instruments – including the recorder. In fact, there are nearly 75 examples in his personal collection! For this concert, Flûte Alors! delves into the manuscripts, influences and heritage of Henry VIII. The works of Henry VIII, William Cornysh and Thomas Tallis promise a royal evening!
