At the court of Henry VIII

Although King Henry VIII captures our collective imagination for many sinister reasons, his reign and numerous reforms undeniably contributed to the rise of English Renaissance polyphony. Music occupied a central place in his life: he composed, sang and excelled on several musical instruments – including the recorder. In fact, there are nearly 75 examples in his personal collection! For this concert, Flûte Alors! delves into the manuscripts, influences and heritage of Henry VIII. The works of Henry VIII, William Cornysh and Thomas Tallis promise a royal evening!

For a truly exotic evening, Flûte Alors! joins forces with Quatuor Cobalt, a young Montreal ensemble with the wind in its sails. On the program: original arrangements of the Four Seasons by Astor Piazzolla, as well as the piece Harde Puntjes by Dutch composer Chiel Meijering. The eight musicians will take you on a journey through the different seasons in Buenos Aires as well as a mesmerizing immersion in the world of minimalist music. Join us for a grand celebration of quartets!
