Mundi Splendor

Flûte Alors! and Ensemble ALKEMIA present a programme of music by the composer Johannes Ciconia (1370-1412). The impressive quantity of works left by this composer and the variety of genres and styles he explored make Ciconia one of the pivotal composers between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. He created an abundance of music with clear and attractive textures, and eternally modern sonorities. This concert will also be an opportunity to hear new works created for the two ensembles inspired by the music of Ciconia.

Êtes-vous Lulliste ou Ramiste?

Lully’s compositions were so popular that they created France’s national musical style. When Rameau sought to revitalize the style of French opera, a scandal erupted. Soon, the city of Paris split into two factions that even went so far as to resort to violence to settle their dispute over whose music was better! In this concert, Flûte Alors! will contrast the operas Isis by Lully with Hippolyte et Aricie by Rameau. At the end of the evening, only one question will be on everyone’s lips: Êtes-vous Lulliste… ou Ramiste?
