Virtuosi Concerts

Flûte Alors!’s classy yet casual programme Bach’n’Jazz pairs masterpieces by the great Johann Sebastian Bach with popular jazz standards. Throughout the concert, Flûte Alors! introduces the audience to the wide variety of sounds of the recorder quartet, from the blended organ-like tones of Bach to the contemporary percussive effects in jazz. Featured works include original arrangements of the celebrated Toccata & Fugue in D minor (BWV 538) and Passacaglia & Fugue in G minor (BWV 582) by Bach, and well-loved jazz standards Fly Me to the Moon and Autumn Leaves.  Bach’n’Jazz embarks on an eclectic voyage that traverses the ages, offering a bouquet of sonorities and a palette of colours to the delight of every audience.

Flûte Alors! opens the season with the enveloping sounds of Elizabethan England. Featuring composers such as John Dowland, Thomas Simpson and Michael East, the musicians will play upon the ensemble’s consort of Renaissance recorders. This will also be the inaugural performance of two recently acquired bass recorders, which add depth and spaciousness to the consort’s sound. The evening will certainly be full of surprises as the musicians use this concert as an opportunity to thank the generous donors who made expanding the consort possible!

For the music Olympics, these four virtuosos train day and night to develop the nimblest fingers, the strongest embouchures and the finest ears in the world. Join them for a 55-minute lap around the track that will take your breath away!
